A Guide to Riser Recliner Chairs

A Guide to Riser Recliner Chairs
Riser recliner chairs can help to provide enormous health benefits to those who are suffering from a wide range of medical conditions, including arthritis, asthma, circulation problems and back pain. For people who spend a lot of time in an armchair, the additional seating positions that a riser and recline chair can provide, can reduce the risk of pressure sores, and other conditions.

Electric lift chairs help the user to get in and out of the armchair easily. They are simple to use and are operated by a handset. The handset will be attached to the chair, so that it can’t be mislaid, and is always to hand when it is required, and the riser recliner chair will often have a pocket or storage space for the handset.

Rise and recline chairs are electrically operated by pressing the relevant button on the handset. If the chair is in a seated position, it can be raised using the handset, and once it is as high as it goes, the user can then perch on the edge of the seat, and use the handset to lower the chair to the required position. When the user wants to stand up, pressing the relevant button will raise the chair and the user from a seated position to an almost standing position.

The handset that controls the electric lift chair can have as few as two buttons, on a single motor riser chair, to control the up and down action of the chair. The more luxurious models of rise and recline chair may have features such as a heat and massage system as well as dual motors, and so the handset will have more buttons. When choosing a rise and recline chair it is important to remember that the user will need to be able to see, identify and be able to use the different buttons on the handset so that they can use the chair properly. Modern riser recliner chairs have a built in battery back up system, so that in the event of a power cut the user is not stranded either in a seated or standing position.

The electric lift chair is fitted with either one or two motors. Models with one motor aren’t as adjustable as models with two motors. Riser recliner chairs with two motors allow the back rest and the footrest to be adjusted independently of each other. The back rest and the footrest are adjusted simultaneously on single motor models. This can lead to the backrest being in the right position, but the footrest isn’t for example. As well as providing additional support and comfort, electric lift chairs lower the user from an almost standing position to a seated position, and vice versa, raising from a seated, or even lying position, to a standing position. This can be very beneficial to those with mobility or joint problems which can make standing up and sitting down using a traditional style of armchair difficult and painful.

There are different types of rise and recline chairs, which offer different levels of support and comfort. As well as the level of comfort and support offered, the size of the user should also be taken into consideration. Riser recliner chairs are available in different sizes, as people are different sizes. A chair for a petite person will not offer the right levels of support and comfort for a very tall person, and vice versa. It should be remembered that unlike mobility scooters and powerchairs, optional extras aren’t really available for riser recliner chairs, so it is advisable to make sure that the model chosen fits the user’s requirements.
Some models of electric lift chair are available with additional pockets and storage compartments, and even trays which are stored in the arm rest.

Different models electric lift chair have different types of back, and the amount and sort of support required will vary from person to person. Riser recliner chairs are available in different colours and some models are available in different fabrics, including leather. It should be possible to find a suitable chair that will fit in with the existing décor and colour scheme in the room. Some model ranges are available with matching sofas or traditional style armchairs.

As well as the performance aspect of the chair, the safety aspect also needs to taken into consideration. Modern rise and recline chairs have additional anti-trap features so that in the event of something getting caught in the mechanism, the chair will not function. In addition to this, some models require a key before the handset will work. This is to prevent unauthorised use and can be especially useful if young children are in the same room as the riser recliner chair.
